Characters change over time: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix(TM)

You may have made word webs before. They are great for showing how science ideas connect or how historical people acted.

For this project, you are going to make a word web that shows how Harry Potter and Dumbledore act in the beginning, middle and end of this book.

You can organize your word web any way you want. Here is a template if you get stuck.

Make sure at least 5 of your thought bubbles include quotes (like the one shown above).

Include 3 facts or events that you summarize also.

After you complete your own word web, you can upload it here.

Knowledge is Power! Important things to learn

Hermione, Harry Potter and many others knew they needed more knowledge and practice to defend against the dark arts. What did they do to fix this problem?

What is something you think you need more knowledge about? Some others wrote about: starting a business, flying, driving a car, how clothes are made, earthquakes, … the ideas are endless!

For this project, you will write a three paragraph essay.

  1. The first paragraph will use Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix(TM) to describe how they taught themselves to defend against the dark arts.
  2. The second paragraph will use your own research to describe how you could teach yourself something important.
  3. The third paragraph will compare and contrast how they taught each other and your plan for learning something important.

For paragraph 3, you may want to make a Venn Diagram to organize your thoughts, but it isn’t required.

If you want to share your three-paragraph essay, you can upload it here.

Try to hire an Auror

Harry Potter starts to think that he would like to be Auror. Probably not your future job!

Do a basic internet search for a job that you would like to have. Look at the description for the position, especially the roles and responsibilities. Most job advertisements have a paragraph that describe the company and the position. Then, a list of tasks that the person will have to do within that job.

For this project, you will create a job posting for an Auror.

Write a paragraph using 3 facts from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix(TM) that explains where Aurors work and what they do.

Then, provide a bulleted list about things Aurors should expect to do in their job.

If you want to share your job posting, you can upload it here!
