Who doesn\u2019t love a summer road trip to the beach? Well,\nbeing jam packed in a car being forced to listen to your parent\u2019s boring music,\nis a bit annoying. But, there is another reason why you should feel annoyed! Almost\nall these cars you see burn large amounts of gas which creates pollution.\nPollution is chemicals and waste humans create and add to the water or air! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burning Waste: A picture above showing cars stuck in heavy traffic, and giving off a massive amount of gas toxic to the atmosphere, called carbon dioxide. <\/strong>According to the EPA website, a typical vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.<\/strong><\/a>

Most cars use fossil fuels to power the engine. Fossil fuels\nhave energy from dead plants and animals that were alive millions of years ago.\nWhen people burn fossil fuels to power vehicles, they release chemicals that are\nharmful to the planet. For example, when a car drives past you, you see a trail\nof smoke. The fire from burning fossil fuels in the engine creates this smoke.\nThese chemicals from one car will not hurt you. But, there are over\n1,000,000,000 cars today! That\u2019s more than a billion! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This problem led many people to think about ways on how we can design cars to produce much less pollution.\u00a0This is where electric cars come in! Over the last decade or so, electric cars have become very popular. Perhaps it is the design and the sleek interior that have people amazed. Or, the lack of pollution might be the big attraction. Either way, electric cars are incredibly fast, reliable, and \u201cearth-friendly\u201d. People use \u201cearth-friendly\u201d to describe things that produce very little or no pollution.
