While building and improving your tall boat, we hope you saw how gravity pulled down on the boat. You had to balance where water could push up on your boat against the force of gravity pushing down on your boat.
Some people think about this boat in two parts. One part is the bottom which makes a sturdy base. The second part is a tower that reaches for the sky. Engineers think about designs in parts too. Thinking about different parts is called Systems Thinking. A system accomplishes a specific goal. In your tall boat, one system made the boat float and another system made the boat tall.
