Famous People

We read about a lot of famous people, so you can see what they did and learn from them. Each great person is a person just like you. They made choices and often had to work very hard. We remember them today because their work was so important. Often, we still see the effects of their work today.

Mount Rushmore shows four famous presidents

When you see statues and monuments, they often remind us of famous people. In South Dakota, Mount Rushmore was created to remind us about these four presidents:

  • George Washington, General and first President
  • Thomas Jefferson, main writer of the Declaration of Independence and third President
  • Teddy Roosevelt, loved the environment and 26th President
  • Abraham Lincoln, Led the United States through the Civil War as the sixteenth President

You can read more about them here: https://www.nps.gov/moru/learn/historyculture/why-these-four-presidents.htm

We love these resources that use places to help us learn about people.
