Chapter 18

What is the main idea of this chapter?

Three converts to the Christian church are beaten badly. Why?

The Christian church built on land in the Evil Forest begins to accept osu (outcasts). What does Mr. Kiaga get the osu to do that surprises the rest of the villagers?

Clansmen hear that one of the Christian converts killed a python. The rulers and elders of the clan meet to decide how to respond. What do they decide?

Okonkwo disagrees with the assembly's decision, thinking it too soft. What does Okonkwo think should be done?

Later the elders and high–titled clansmen change their minds about what to do with the Christians. Why?

What is the main idea of this chapter?

The District Commissioner sends his messenger to ask some Umuofia leaders to meet him at his headquarters. What do the six leaders take with them?

What happens to the six leaders of Umuofia while they are sitting in the courtroom?
